Spring Concert 2012 05/09/2012
Join us this Friday night, May 11, 2012 at 7pm for our Spring Concert, "Light in the Darkness". I've heard the kids practicing and it's going to be amazing!! Be sure to check out the fabulous program cover, a block print designed by Middle School Art students Sarah Wilson and Gianna Rovai. Well done, girls!! Add Comment Moms' Art Night 2012 05/05/2012
Our TLCS moms are the best! And did I mention that they're creative and talented, too?? We had a blast making block-printed note cards last night at Palace Art in Capitola - a fundraiser from our school auction in February. Amazingly, none of these women had ever done any block printing before..... their designs looked so professional! Thank you to these great ladies for supporting our school! Art Contest Winners 05/01/2012
Congratulations to our TLCS 2012 art contest winners: Monterey Bay Air Pollution Control District Calendar Contest Ashlyn Love - grade 1 Kiana Radliff - grade 6 (Over 600 entries were received for this contest, but only thirteen winners were selected. Both girls won an award of $100 and their artwork will be featured in the 2013 calendar!) Santa Cruz Farm Bureau's National Agriculture Day Poster Contest Hailey Adney - grade 5 - 2nd place (This contest also received hundreds of entries with only four winners chosen!) Well done, girls! We are very proud of you!! TLCS Open House & Art Show 02/18/2012
The TLCS Art Show is up! Photos just don't do it justice, so you'll have to come see it for yourself! Stop by the auditorium lobby during Open House on Thursday, February 23, or visit anytime between now and Monday, February 27. You'll see colorful tropical bird paintings, self-portraits inspired by Amadeo Modigliani and Grant Wood, and Chinese brush paintings, just to name a few. Don't miss all the fabulous artwork by our TLCS artists! Cezanne-Inspired Still Life Paintings 02/05/2012
Last week, our Kindergarteners and 1st Graders learned about French Impressionist artist Paul Cezanne. My favorite part about his story is how he and his friend, writer Emil Zola, would encourage each other in their work. We talked about how God wants us to do the same thing! Hebrews 3:13 says, "....encourage one another daily..." It was heartwarming to hear students complimenting and encouraging each other as they worked! Here are a few still life paintings by our 1st Graders. Look for artwork from each of our students in the auditorium lobby during our Open House & Art Show on February 23rd! Middle School Animal Portraits on Display 01/02/2012
Our Middle School Art students are displaying their very realistic animal portraits during the month of January 2012 at Palace Art in Capitola. Be sure to stop in next time you're on 41st Avenue so you can see these amazing pencil drawings for yourself! (Special thanks to Mabel at Palace Art for allowing us to use their exhibit space this month!) Great job, students! I'm so proud of you!! :) We're Collecting Old Calendars! 01/01/2012
Happy New Year! It's time to welcome in 2012, and that means many of you will be recycling your old 2011 calendars. If you have any old photography calendars (travel photos are especially great!) or fine art calendars that feature the work of famous artists, please consider donating them to TLCS Art! Just drop off your unwanted calendars in the office with my name on them and we will put them to good use! Thank you! Kids Kreations Orders Arriving Soon! 12/09/2011
Our Kids Kreations orders are officially "in transit" and should be arriving by next Wednesday, December 14th.... in plenty of time for Christmas gift-giving. I always love unboxing our orders and seeing how great the kids' artwork looks on everything! We'll post a sign out by the circle to let you know when the orders are available to be picked up. Christmas Cards for Veterans 11/17/2011
Over the next couple of weeks, all of our students will be making Christmas cards for Veterans. These cards will be displayed in the TLC lobby during weekend services for church members to sign. Then they will be delivered to Veteran hospitals throughout the Bay Area in time for Christmas. Yesterday, our 4th graders made their cards, and I was so touched by how seriously they took this project. They really saw this as a way that they could bless those who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom. Thank you, Veterans!! Magnificent Monarchs 11/13/2011
Our Kinders will be taking their annual field trip to see the Monarchs this week, so I thought it would be fun to do a special Monarch project with them as they prepare to see this spectacular display of God's creation! I'll share a few of their magnificent oil pastel Monarchs here.... | Cheryl Trowbridge
